Just a few words as we head into the final month of the year.
The Dusty Tomes blog is taken down, at least for now. I will be keeping a more regular blog over at the Zer0MeansYourDead Blog. All news will remain on this site, but my opinion pieces are moving there. Progress on Ashes, DIRGE, and ARM is being made. I may have some more Q21 news soon as well, but December is going to be a big month. ~SMH

ARMzine has launched!
4.16.2019 - Atlanta, GA Today Reign Dragon Press launched its second Kickstarter following on the success of the DIRGEzine kickstarter in February & March of this year. Announcing A.R.M.zine ! ARMzine or the Apprentice Role-playing Manual is an rpg/fanzine designed to be a fun way to teach kids (of all ages) how to play AND run role-playing games, without the need for traditional call backs or social barriers to entry. ARMzine is being design with a simple D6 + Skill, fail forward philosophy where success is team building and creativity, not necessarily how many bad guys you bulldozed. Random charts provide the Game Master and their crew (players) with tools to generate completely random adventures, including genre, setting, and the weirdness factors. ARMzine is setting and genre neutral. This means that one does not need a particular knowledge of either history or RPG traditions to play or run ARMzine inspired games. The cool traditions will be baked in and the unneeded baggage will be left out. In addition, as many kids will be rounded up to playtest ARMzine as we can find. It won't be adults talking down to kids; the kids will have a say in how the game is designed. Become one of the backers for this great idea! Head on over to Kickstarter and put your support behind ARMzine! So DIRGEzine funded! I cannot tell you how happy I am that it was a success. That success will open doors for the contributors, at least I hope it will. On a personal note I do not feel like I can really be a somebody. Like Steve Martin's character in The Jerk. My name is in the phone book, so people have to respect me.
Now comes fulfillment. Getting the articles and art from the contributors and putting it together in a coherent manner. Tackling the printer, paying folks for their work, and well delivering a project. I hope that layout will go smoothly, but lord knows it may be a real nightmare lol. No seriously I used to do it for a living so we should be fine. A.R.M.zine - April 2019 Another personal project I have wanted to work on for some time is a kid friendly RPG game. I wanted to launch it during ZineQuest, but frankly I was so busy with DIRGEzine that I did not want to take away time on that project. Plus ARMzine is not ready yet. It will be by April, however. ARMzine will be its own game system with tables for generating random adventures of any genre that strikes your fancy. There will be no (or as little as possible) cultural baggage included so that everyone can feel as if the game is for them and their children. I will also have some basic GM advice and cool "Puzzles" that use different dice to help new players and children get used to those dice and types of dice rolling. It is ambitious, but who wants to do it simple? Look for a March Update later this week. A quick update for the moment to talk about our projects.
DIRGEzine We are nearly at 50% funded! Still plenty of time to go so share out the link to DIRGEzine so others can contribute to this great fanzine! Falling Forward #1 Falling Forward #1, Echoes in the Weave is still going strong in terms of work getting done. With DIRGEzine, work has slowed this month but we are on track for late February or early March. Then it will be back to adventure writing for DM's Guild before Falling Forward #2 this late spring. Ashes of Blade & Bone I do a lot of updates over on the Chaosium Forums. As updates go live in other spots, I will link them as well. For now, pop on over and take a look! 1/23/2019 Sean Hillman of Reign Dragon Press Signs Limited License to Publish a Setting for use with Chaosium’s Magic World RPGRead NowJanuary 23rd, 2019
Atlanta, GA Sean Hillman of Reign Dragon Press signed a Limited License today to create a setting for use with Chaosium’s Magic World fantasy rpg. The setting, Ashes of Blade & Bone, is a sword & sorcery setting that will embody many of the themes that exist within the mechanics of Magic World, while forging new territory of its own. A few highlights of the setting:
A release date has not been announced as yet, though later 2019/early 2020 is the preliminary goal of the team. Happy New Year Everyone!
We are hitting the ground running this month. Work continues on the Podcast and and the Patreon. Follow us there is you can. We are hard at work soliciting content creators for D.I.R.G.E.zine and so far so good. After some work, I think we have a winner for the cover of Falling Forward #1 Falling Forward is a Sourcezine (my word) that includes articles on several topics as well as new rules for D&D 5th Edition. I will be published on the DMs Guild. Falling Forward #1 is titled Echo in the Weave. DIREGEzine 2019 Submissions are Open!
Today we are throwing open the doors to submissions for D.I.R.G.E.zine 2019! This is the inaugural edition of the D.I.R.G.E.zine and will hopefully be the first of many annual fanzines focusing on content creators from under-represented communities in tabletop role playing games. D.I.R.G.E.zine will be launching a Kickstarter in February of 2019 to coincide with the ZineQuest from Kickstarter as a celebration of fanzines in role playing games! Click here for more information on submitting content for D.I.R.G.E.zine 2019! D.I.R.G.E.zine Kickstarter announced! February 2019Kickstarter is running a focus on RPG zines in February of 2019. The KS ZineQuest is an opportunity to put out an old school style fanzine for people to enjoy. I am all for this, but it seems to me that we have an opportunity to do better here. We have an opportunity to marry old school feels with diverse ideas and this has me excited.
So I am officially launching my first Kickstarter in February to bring D.I.R.G.E.zine to life. D.I.R.G.E. (Diversity In Role-playing Game Experiences) is a project I have wanted to do for a long time now. I have envisioned a program that reaches out to creators and communities that are under-represented in role playing games. I believe this zine will do that. Depending on how successful it is, this could be a yearly zine or perhaps something that happened more often. For now we are going to focus on doing one very cool rpg zine. I will provide a KS preview soon, once some of the details are nailed down. I think delivery will take place in 2019. So, how can you help? How can you contribute to making D.I.R.G.E. zine a success?
There will be a dedicated form, but for now use the Feedback form or email me directly ([email protected]) Today we talk about a few products that are being worked on. Do you want to learn more about these two upcoming products? Go over to our Patreon and join! Citadel of Time: The Dead World A Wind & Stone RPG Citadel of Time is a role playing game that is one part fantasy and one part time travel. It is designed to be an episodic series of adventures by characters trapped in the titular Citadel of Time who are seeking the graels that may be able to undo the terrible destruction of their world, Yrmangahr. CoT is designed with the idea of player minimalism in mind, so that the player and game master (Castellan) do not have to keep track of tons of rules and modifiers. CoT is inspired by RPG Kitchen in their effort to use gaming to battle hunger. The game itself is being exclusively designed for RPG Kitchen. Go ahead and check out their patreon here. Wind & Stone is the name for the style of game system. It is something I have been toying with for some time. It will use D6 dice in a pool system, at least for CoT, and focus on single roll success or failure, with a minimum of complexity. Echoes in the Mind A DM Guild Supplement I do not know that I love psionics in D&D, but I do know that I have never loved how they work. Echoes in the Mind will be a supplement that focuses on psionics and will include classes, sub-classes, powers, and feats. Echoes in the Mind will also tackle psionics from a different perspective than you may have seen before. Or perhaps not. I think you will enjoy the content, however. EotM will be for sale on the DM Guild by Christmas. |
